How to Make a CV for Jobs in Pakistan
Most applications in Pakistan are still a PDF in an email or a portal upload. The person reading it is often on a phone, between other CVs, and they will not decode a clever layout. I build mine in the CV / Resume Builder because the text stays in the browser and the download is a normal PDF.
What the first screen must answer
Name, city, phone, and an email you actually check. Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, or "remote" is enough. A full street address is rarely useful and it is more personal than a job application needs.
Under that, three or four lines that say what role you want and what you have already done that matches it. Not a life motto. If you are applying to be a junior developer, the summary should say that, and it should mention the stack you can defend in an interview.
A photo is optional unless the employer asked. Many tech and office roles do not want one. If you include one, use a plain headshot, not a wedding crop.
Experience that sounds like work
For each job or internship, put the organisation, the city, and the dates as month and year. Then bullets. A bullet needs a verb and a result. "Responsible for social media" is a job title rewritten. "Published 12 product posts a month and cut reply time on WhatsApp enquiries from a day to an afternoon" is a bullet.
Numbers help when they are true. Do not invent a percentage. If you do not have a metric, describe the scope: how many people, which tool, what you shipped.
Order the jobs with the most relevant first if you are changing fields. A strict reverse-chronological list is still fine when your last job is the one you want to repeat. Internships and final-year projects count. A three-month internship with a clear bullet beats a year of "member of the society" with no task.
Education, skills, and the things people pad
Degree, institution, and year. If you are a fresh graduate, education can sit above experience. If you have two years of work, put the work first.
Skills are a list you can talk about for five minutes. "MS Office" on its own is noise unless the role is admin and you mean Excel properly. For software roles, name languages and tools you have used in a project, not every tutorial you opened.
Certificates belong on the CV when they are specific and recent. A wall of free badges does not. One relevant course with a project link is stronger.
Keep the whole document to one page if you are early in your career, two if you have the jobs to fill them. Word Counter is a useful check on the summary so it stays a short paragraph and not an essay.
The PDF itself
Download the PDF and open it on your phone before you send it. Check that the phone number is not split across a line in a confusing way, that dates line up, and that you did not leave a placeholder. File name: YourName-CV.pdf. Not resume_final_v7.pdf.
If the employer asked for a cover letter in the same file, write the letter, export it, and merge the PDFs with the letter first. Check the page count.
Do not put your CNIC number on a CV that will be forwarded around a company. Give identity documents when a verified HR process asks, not in the first PDF.
One CV is not every CV
The summary and the top bullets should change when the role changes. A teaching application and a backend application should not open with the same sentence. Keep a master in your own notes, edit a copy, export again. The builder does not store the CV on a server, so the master copy is your responsibility.
Send it from a professional email address, with a subject line that includes the role and your name. The CV cannot repair a blank email that says "please find attached".
If you want a second pair of eyes, ask someone to read only the first half page and tell you what job they think you want. If they cannot tell, rewrite the summary. That test is worth more than another typeface.
Local habits that matter here
Apply in the language the ad used. If the post is in English, the CV should be in English unless they asked for Urdu. Dates should be consistent: Nov 2024 or November 2024, not a mix. If a gap is longer than a few months, one plain line is better than a hole the reader will invent a story for. "Family responsibility, 2023" is enough. You do not owe a paragraph.
Links, if you include them, should open. A GitHub or a portfolio that 404s is worse than no link. Phone numbers should include the city code or +92 so a recruiter outside your city can dial. And if you are applying to several roles in one week, export a separate PDF per role. The builder will not remember yesterday's version for you. Your notes will, if you keep them.
